Los Angeles
Ginny and Larry went to the Western Energy Institute conference in Newport Beach, California in April and then spent the weekend in downtown Los Angeles.
Here is the Cathedral of the Angels:
For a small fee you can be buried in the mausoleum in the basement alongside Gregory Peck.
In contrast we attended First United Methodist Church a few blocks away. They had no church building but owned a parking lot. They met in the general purpose room of a low income housing apartment. The congregation was multi-ethnic and hymns were sung in three languages simultaneously - English, Spanish and Korean. Quite a sound.
The courtyard outside our hotel in Chinatown where we ate breakfast each day. Ginny is in the background with the newspaper.
We visited Chinatown, Little Tokyo and Olvera Street. The Japanese American museum was most interesting and focused on the internment camps during WWII. The 3rd and 4th largest cities in Arizona during that period were two Japanese internment camps.
The entrance to Chinatown.
A wildlife preserve in Newport Beach.
